PT Lab Assistant/HVAC at Kansas

Job Description

PART TIME LAB ASSISTANT – HEATING AND REFRIGERATION TECHNOLOGY KCKCC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and we encourage applications from minorities 
Reporting directly to the HVAC/R Technology Coordinator, the Assistant shall work with and assist the HVAC/R Instructors in the following areas:
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific task in the service and repair of equipment.
  • Observe student performance of tasks assigned by HVAC/R instructors.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by all students.
  • Follow EPA requirements for the safe handling of all refrigerants.
  • Guide and advise students in proper operation of oxy/acetylene torches.
  • Maintain safe and proper operation of all shop equipment.
  • Report any accidents to HVAC/R instructor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by HVAC/R instructors.
  • Assist students in safe operation of   the equipment. Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by the instructors.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
  • Follow required pollution prevention procedures in the handling of chemicals and waste products.
  • Maintain records of repair orders for proper accountability of parts and materials.
  • Maintain control of college owned specialty tools for use by students.
  • Enforcing all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC.
  • Being responsible for the transportation of students during field trips per the College’s policies and guidelines.
  • Traveling with students to off campus activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the respective instructor.
  • Work schedule will be part-time, 29 hours or less per week.
  • CONSULTING TASKS
    May consult with HVAC/R Technology faculty and students.
     
    SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
    None.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities.
  • Must understand the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college.
  • Applicant must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  •  
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have 3-5 years experience in the field as a service technician.
  • Must be EPA certified “Universal."
  • Have a current knowledge of commercial and residential HVAC/R applications and actual field experience in service, repair and installation of equipment.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
     
    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students by talking/hearing.
  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to use hands/fingers to handle/feel objects such as tools, keyboards, etc.
  • Ability to reach with hands/arms.
  • SALARY:   $21.85 per hour
