This new position is a great opportunity with a growing company for the influential leader who enjoys developing team members through their appraisal responsibilities. With a passion for agriculture or life in rural America, this experienced appraisal leader will supervise a seasoned team of 5-7, lead achievement of business goals, and complete highly complex appraisals.This leader of the appraisal team brings successful supervision and experience of at least 7 years as a senior-level appraiser with state certification. Brings significant ag real estate and chattel appraisal experience. Capably completes appraisals of highly specialized properties and provides review oversight to team’s appraisals. Responsible for activity of collecting, analyzing, benchmarking, completing market surveys, and trending real estate sales information to support appraisals, asset valuation and range of value appraisals.
This position requires the VP-Appraisal to…
- select, develop, train, evaluate, review and supervise team of appraisers, including mentoring of appraiser trainees.
- complete moderate to highly complex ag appraisals including highly specialized properties.
- seek out, vision, design and implement appraisal efficiencies.
- be an influencer and change leader inside and outside own team.
- prioritize and assign internal and external fee appraisal requests; maximize efficiencies with range of value appraisals.
- ensure and review timely completion of high quality and compliant appraisals to support association’s lending activities.
- make independent decisions within professional and association parameters that align scope, volume and pricing of appraisals.
- lead or follow to thrive in a team environment; work independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives.
- apply strong knowledge of production agriculture, crops and soils, ag real estate, chattel and highly specialized ag-use facilities.
- analyze land use and sales data to identify trends.
- lead to anticipate or identify, then maximize opportunities in land and chattel changes and trends.
- be able and willing to work outside of normal and traditional hours as needed.
- drive daily or regularly, primarily within territory, to complete appraisals and to engage with team members.
- communicate with well above average writing, speaking and interpersonal skills.
- demonstrate strong technology proficiency with ability to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency.
- commit time and energy to effectively lead team within a customer-centric, growth- and change-focused association.

Job Requirements
Our preferred candidate brings …
- minimum of bachelor’s degree, likely in a business or agriculture discipline.
- state certified General Real Property Appraiser.
- the strongly preferred Professional Designation with Appraisal Institute or ASFMRA (ARA, MAI).
- minimum of three years recent and successful supervision of appraisal professionals.
- a work record of effective leadership and high-level individual contribution to the appraisal field.
- solid knowledge of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
- strong knowledge of use of appraisals and valuations for risk management and security in ag lending.
- familiarity with geography, land, soils, crops and agricultural practices in eastern Kansas.
