JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

  • These positions are for the Army Embedded Behavioral Health (EBH) initiative. This work involves treating soldiers with a broad range of behavioral health concerns in specific combat divisions around the world. The Social Worker (Clinical) acts as a behavioral health liaison between behavioral health sciences and battalion command team, ensuring operational behavioral health requirements are met. Comfort and familiarity with engaging command teams regarding general behavioral health issues is an important aspect of successfully completing EBH mission.
  • Fort Riley is located 120 miles west of Kansas City between Junction City (town of approximately 17,000) and Manhattan (college town of 45,000 residents). The local area has two large freshwater lakes for fishing, swimming, boating or camping. There are many other opportunities, Big XII Kansas State Wildcats football; Milford Lake Wetlands; hiking on the Konza Prairies; or golf at a nationally ranked course. Go hunting or ride your off-road vehicle at one of the largest ORV areas in Kansas.

    As a Supervisory Social Worker (Clinical), you will perform the following duties:
    •Screen and interview patients, and perform bio-psychosocial evaluations.
    •Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
    •Make behavioral health diagnoses and provide individual and group therapy, using various modalities such as brief problem-focused psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and client-centered therapy.
    •Formulate behavioral health interventions and assist with implementation and monitoring of treatment plans.
    •Supervise assigned professional and paraprofessional employees, military personnel, federal civilian employees, and provide technical oversight to contract employees assigned to the Clinic.

  • Degree: Successful completion of at least a Masters Degree in Social Work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Worker Education.  
  • Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-12) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which includes conducting psychological assessments, formulating diagnostic and/or treatment recommendations, providing individual and/or group therapy, and reviewing and/or approving modalities for patients.
  • Licensure/Certification: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license as an independent clinical social worker from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
  • You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

    • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
    • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification Current Advanced Life Support of other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.

    HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

    Basis for Rating: Qualified candidates will be assigned to one of three quality categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified and Qualified. Veteran preference eligibles are listed ahead of non-preference eligibles within each quality category.

    Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP). The Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
