The Central Plains CPAC is located in Leavenworth is a community of approximately 35,000 people located in the rolling hills of northeastern Kansas on the Missouri River. Leavenworth is on the outskirts of the Kansas City metropolitan area and is home to the Armys Fort Leavenworth, Saint Mary College, the Dwight D. This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program for students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
The Internship Program provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to their curriculum studies and career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. To be eligible for conversion, the student employee must be capable of working at least 640 hours prior to completion of their degree requirements.
Full requirements for Conversion:
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
· Complete their degree or certificate requirements
· Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
· Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participants Agreement, and Perform their job successfully
Internship Work Options:
When a student is initially hired into the Internship Program, a work schedule is documented on his/her agreement. Students will work a parallel work schedule that allows them to work while continuing their education during the semester. Students should also take into consideration the required 640 hours of work that must be completed prior to the students graduation, so that upon graduation the student will be eligible for conversion into a permanent position.

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, (Central Plains Consolidated Patient Account Center), Leavenworth, KS . TheCentral Plains is a regionally consolidated business entity established to enhancerevenue operations throughout the VHA network by standardization andconsolidation of functions and the integration of VHA and industry bestpractices. This is a developmental position in Administration and OfficeSupport intended to provide experience and on-the-job training in variousspecialized program areas (e.g., Administrative Service Specialist, ProgramSupport Assistant, Financial Account Technician and Agent Cashier). Theincumbent will receive progressively more difficult assignments and projects invarious program operations. The incumbent may receive assignments thatinvolve preparing and presenting informational briefings as well as draftingmemorandums on assigned subjects. You will serve in a developmentalassignment to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed toperform the full range of routine and non-routine assignments at the nextlevel.
The functional duties of this position are to assist thepermanent staff with general clerical duties and program support.
As the Admin/Office Trainee (Pathways Intern),the incumbent is responsible for:
· Ensuring that all pertinent information isgathered and input into the automated system in a timely and accurate manner.
· Collecting, compiling and/or tracking data for the perpetrationof statistical, financial and/or administrative reports on a recurring basis.
· Researching automated information, databases, directories orother sources in order to extract, summarize and compile information.
· Assembling and summarizing data, background information othermaterials into reports or appropriate presentation formats.

PROMOTION POTENTIAL: Student interns are appointed atthe GS-04 level. Promotion potential is not guaranteed and no promise ofpromotion is implied.
Applicants must be degree seeking students who are currentlyenrolled in an accredited institution and maintaining a half-time courseload.
To be eligible for the Internship appointment, thestudent must:
· Live within the local commuting distance of Leavenworth, KS.
· Meet agency policy on nepotism.
· Have a cumulative academic GPA of 2.0 or higher and maintain thesame academic standard while in the Internship program.
· Be formally accepted into an accredited high school, technical,vocational, 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school in adiscipline related to the position being filled.
· Be capable of working at least 640 hours prior to completion ofdegree requirements in order to be considered for non-competitive conversion.
GENERAL REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
GS-04: 1 year of progressively responsible clerical, officeor other work that demonstrates the ability to:
1. Operate office equipment, i.e., computer, copier, and fax
2. Maintain and organize files
3. Locate and assemble information for various reports and;
4. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Substitution of Education for Experience: completion of 2 years ofeducation above the high school level in any field for which high schoolgraduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite can be used in placeof 1 year general experience. One year of full-time academic study isdefined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a collegeor university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week forapproximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Thiseducation must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial ortechnical school, junior college, college or university.
Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfullycompleted post-high school education and experience may be used to meet totalqualification requirements for the GS-04 grade level, and may be computed byfirst determining the applicants total qualifying experience as a percentageof the experience required for the grade level; then determining theapplicants education as a percentage of the education required for the gradelevel; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal atleast 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Equivalentcombinations of successfully completed post high school education andexperience may be used to meet the total experience requirement of the GS-04level. Example: An applicant has 6 months of general experienceand 30 semester hours of college. The applicant meets 50 percent of therequired experience and 50 percent of the required education. Therefore, theapplicant meets 100 percent of the total requirement and is qualified for theposition. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
