EHS Manager at Coffeyville

Job Description

The Environmental Health and Saftey Manager position will review, evaluate, audit, and assist in training of plant personnel to assure continuity of all environmental health, safety and security activities for the site. The EHS Manager will identify and assist the site in meeting and integrating procedures and philosophical changes necessary to established and keep all team members, work sites and processes both safe and environmentally compliant. This position will use a hands-on approach to help assure organizational compliance of applicable OSHA and EPA federal, state, local and corporate safety, health and environmental regulatory requirements. This position will evaluate, identify and assure a standardized EHS direction, correct guidance and ensures timely implementation which is known and followed by all assigned team members, facilities, equipment and operations located in their assigned site. This position will audit and evaluate plant personnel and the car repair shops/mobile repair sites for internal policy compliance as well as federal, state and local compliance.

Reporting Relationships:
The EHS Manager reports directly to the Corporate EHS Director. The Safety Managers will have a dotted line directly to the Plant manager at the site.

Responsibilities:
As the site safety leader, primary responsibility is to identify and eliminate obstacles that prevent all injuries and accidents. Additionally to implant a safety culture that believes that all injuries and incidents are unacceptable and preventable.
Implement and maintain safety standards to assure compliance with environmental, health, safety and security of team members assigned within the region.
Assure compliance with applicable OSHA and EPA federal, state, local and corporate EHS regulations/requirements in region.
Assist in building team cultural support of corporate policies related to safety, loss prevention, claims reporting and management to control cost and expenditures.
Work closely with local, regional and corporate leadership and plant manager to ensure a continual improvement and compliance in eliminating accidents, injuries, illness and environmental events with skilled assistance and support through lasting corrective actions and make recommendations to all regional operations.
Help create a culture of injury-free plant attitudes using accountability, injury review processes and demonstration through example.
Assure that the processes are in place to evaluate and conduct near miss, incident, injury, and illness investigations to discover root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences
Conduct plant audits to evaluate local personnel, work hazards and exposures to determine trends and action plans for remediation and corrective actions.
Conduct efficiency test reviews, site audits and individual efficiency tests to determine site compliance with the continuous improvement aspects of the corporate efficiency testing program.
Provide hands-on remedial instruction and training to local teams to assure understanding, knowledge and standardization of expectations and accomplishments.
Assist the Director during a response situation involving a crisis and/or contingency management and/or effectively liaisons with internal management, Civil Defense authorities, other governmental agencies and tasks forces in addressing emergency situations in the assigned region.
Identifies and provides oversight of industrial hygiene program requirements as identified within the individual plant operations to the Director.
Assures standardization in the accomplishment and implementation of corporate safety policies and procedures.
Identifies, recommends and be a part of identified solutions and provides assistance to Risk Management and Human Resources teams regarding property, casualty and workers compensation issues as they relate to the EHS function in their plant.
Responsibilities as assigned by the Corporate EHS Director.

Job Requirements


Job Requirements:
An undergraduate degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene or commensurate experience required.
Experience with hazard/exposure identification, auditing and inspections; EHS training program requirements; OSHA, EPA and regulatory submissions; record keeping requirements and action-item projects.
A solid, demonstrable working knowledge of OSHA and EPA Federal, State and local regulatory compliance requirements.
Possess or achieve a professional certification in EHS within a 2 year timeframe, i.e., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Certifies Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Registered Environmental Manager (REM) or equivalent professional designation.
Proven interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to stay focused on goals, responsibilities using trend analysis to help guide EHS organizational targets
A team builder in helping to create an effective work environment or culture in the safety core values.
Strong written and oral communication and skills are essential
Must be performance oriented in dealing with team members in being able to positively influence to work towards achievement of safety performance goals
Must be professional when dealing with conflicting situations and able to represent the team when dealing with both internal and external regulatory agencies
Be able to systematically analyze situations in a fast paced environment and provide effective recommendations based on evidence, facts and knowledge
Must be skilled in providing oral and written communication; must possess ability to effectively listen and grasp the root of the concern.
Able to effectively use the Microsoft suite of tools including Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.
Must be a Team player and able to interact effectively with all team members
Must have a proven and good work ethic
Be knowledgeable and sensitive to a union environments including collective bargaining team members and representatives.
Must have at least 4 years experience in an EHS function with a experience as EHS Coordinator a plus.
Must possess a valid driver license
Must be able to travel at least 10% of working time
Ability to work in an outdoor environment and be able to climb 20 foot ladders multiple times.
Must be able to enter an enclosed workspace and not exhibit fear or be claustrophobic in entering railroad tank cars or vessels
