QA Lead
The Lead QA Analyst is the primary point person for testing related issues on assigned Document and Portal desktop or web-deployed product/s, and is responsible for all aspects of planning and testing software for the purpose of uncovering defects that will aid in developing an objective assessment of the quality of the product/s and readiness to ship.
The Lead QA Analyst is also responsible for writing, executing and maintaining automated test scripts for the purpose of uncovering defects that will aid in developing an objective assessment of the quality of the product/s in test. This Senior member relies on their experience, judgment and continuing skill development to plan and execute testing goals. Working under very minimal supervision, they must multi-task a variety of complex duties related to manual and automated software testing/test planning and have responsibility in a Lead role for supervising a product testing team which includes manual testers and automation scripters. A high degree of knowledge, creativity, supervisory, delegation & judgment skills are required.
Responsibilites
Analyzing specifications and/or products as needed in order to develop test plans to provide or meet pre-determined test coverage goals
Strategizing testing via plan templates, checklists, matrices, flowcharts, or any means necessary
Designing, developing, testing and deploying automation test frameworks, testing tools, test cases, suites and scripts
Coaching/training automation scripters and developers; delegating and guiding scripting work
Coordinating testing resources with QA Manager and/or other Lead/s
Developing product test schedule and contribute to product release scheduling when warranted
Communicating testing assignments to testers, coach testers and field issues/questions
Monitoring and reviewing delegated work and testing status. Report performance status and issues to QA Manager
Responsible for all steps of the defect life cycle including:
Finding and reporting defects with detailed, accurate and concise steps to reproduce
Duplicating reported defects from customers
Assisting developers in researching defects
Verifying defect fixes when returned from development in a working build
Assisting testers or tech support in troubleshooting and analyzing defect trends
Creating and managing tests to provide coverage against new and legacy features
Creating and managing tests from defects for use in regression cycles
Working with the test team, product owners, development leads and others to determine highest pay-off tests to automate
Reporting testing status including test completion, test pass/fail results, defect status, and other issues as needed
Actively participating in project teams/meetings to gather information relevant to testing and give input where appropriate
Identifying risk areas as early or late in SDLC as warranted
Assisting project and company management with go/no-go decisions
Displaying proactive communication between product management, developers, QA Team, Tech. Support
Performing testing of product including assisting with the verification that customer documentation is accurate
Contributing to refining overall QA practices, procedures and tools
Assisting in identifying system enhancements to optimize system efficiency and ease of use
Helping to train QA Temps and Entry-level full-time testers
Reporting issues having a direct and material impact on successful completion of projects under test and assigned tasks to QA Manager, Director or other project stakeholders as warranted
Implementing product testing practices in accordance with the standards and practices set forth and/or changed by the QA Manager, consistent with stated project goals and objectives
On an ongoing basis, establishing and maintaining working knowledge and understanding of software test methodologies, standards, practices and procedures
Qualifications:
Education
B.A./B.S. in computer-related field preferred, or equivalent experience
Experience: 4+ years of prior testing experience with some programming experience and/or direct experience with automation tools and scripting languages preferred.
Other related work experience involving development, technical writing, troubleshooting or technical support role in software development environment.
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
Extensive knowledge of Windows OSs, common software and web-based application
Extensive knowledge of networking and database
Extensive understanding of testing methodologies and general Quality concepts
Advanced knowledge of common desktop software and web-based applications In-depth knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; ability to think both logically and abstractly
Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and reading comprehension
Ability to understand and interpret a variety of documents such as technical specifications and user manuals
Must be self-motivated, self-managing and results oriented; ability to work with little to no supervision
Ability to use reference materials to research technical issues
Ability to systematically analyze new or existing software functionality
Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment under time-sensitive deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with Managers and Executives
Ability to juggle multiple projects and see all details through to completion (multi-task)
Ability to communicate solutions to complex technical subjects and explain them to others who are not technical in nature
Experience working with offshore teams
A natural patience to work with others who are not technically oriented
Certified Software Tester or Analyst a major plus
