Landscape Distribution Center Assistant Manager at Olathe

Job Description

Loma Vista Nursery‘s Landscape Distribution Center (LDC) located in Olathe Kansas and is currently seeking an Assistant Manager to join our family.  Loma Vista Nursery has been growing quality plant material since 1991.  It is a family owned and operated business.  Loma Vista prides itself on being one of the Midwest’s premier wholesale nurseries with over 450 varieties of plant material. The Assistant Manager will directly assist the manager in all aspects of the LDC’s operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Directly supervises yard/shipping/CDL-driver employees

•  Ensures proper procedures are followed, monitors and motivates employees to complete  assigned tasks

•  Responsible for managing the safety program, conducts bi-weekly safety meeting and documents accordingly

•  Serves as the LDC safety officer, ensuring that LDC is compliant with all company H$S requirements and initiatives as well as WPS training and OSHA rules and regulations

•  Encourages team work and practices good housekeeping, maintaining an organized, clean and presentable nursery at all times

•  Responsible for DOT compliance

•  Responsible for accuracy of all outgoing shipments

•  Determines shipping method for material, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates

•  Ability to operate different machinery such as skid steers, tractors, nursery jaws, etc.

•  Responsible for the supervision of will call & delivery orders-spot check for accuracy

•  Responsible for the care of plants and trees, including but not limited to:

o  Pest/disease control; identifies trees and plants to be sprayed for pest/disease control

o  Pruning of shrubs & trees - identifies plants to be pruned and demonstrate technique to pruning crews

o  Fertilizing of shrubs & trees

•  Responsible for inventory control, including but not limited to:

o  Includes plant material as well as other saleable items i.e., mulch, landscape supplies, chemicals

o  Maintaining accurate inventory counts, layout & mapping of inventory location

o  Receiving stock, entering orders and PO’s, checking in material received

o  Cycle counting & correcting any inventory issues

•  Responsible for appearance of the nursery, including but not limited to:

o  Pruning, weeding, orderly appearance and spacing in greenhouses & signage

•  The ability to manage purchasing of the hard goods within 6 months of hiring

•  Develop and maintain customer relationships, assists in generating sales leads and pursuing new business

Job Requirements

Ideal candidates will have:

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
