Derby Chamber of CommerceJob DescriptionPosition: President/Chief Executive OfficerReports to: Derby Chamber of Commerce Board of DirectorsSummary of Responsibilities:The President, as chief executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce, accepts overall responsibility for program planning and administration, staff and volunteer oversight, and fiscal management of the Chamber. He/She serves at the discretion of the Board of Directors with authority granted by the organizations bylaws.Primary Duties:Operations: The President will work with the Board of Directors Chairman to set agenda, oversee membership growth & retention, and determine the Chambers involvement in city projects, economic development strategies, and other activities deemed beneficial to Chamber membership and the positive growth of the community. Vision/Planning: The President works with the Board of Directors in identifying the needs of the Chamber members and develops a manageable plan of work for meeting those needs. The President will be responsible for communicating with the Executive Committee to ensure the short-term and long-term planning strategies are accomplished. Staffing: The President oversees the hiring, performance, evaluation, and compensation of Chamber office staff, and is responsible to the Board of Directors for maintaining staff morale, tenure, and productivity. The President works with leaders within the organizational structure to support and recruit volunteers to accomplish the annual plan of work. Fiscal Management: The President is responsible to the Finance Task Force and Board of Directors for developing and balancing an annual budget that supports the activities and programs of the Chamber. All reports, audits, and accounting operations are accessible to and approved by the Board of Directors.Community/Governmental Relations - The President is expected to establish and maintain positive, productive, working relationships with community and business leaders; local and area media contacts; local, state, and federal elected officials. Special Events and Program of Work - The President is responsible for overseeing the program of work and event management as it relates to the Chambers budget. The President is expected to attend all major events.Technology - The President must oversee and support the use of technology as it pertains to membership and information management. Technology currently used: membership management, event management, newsletter, web site and social media. Welcome Center - The President is responsible for working with City of Derby staff to maintain a welcoming office presence that ensures access to information and serves as an inviting "open door" to visitors, residents and the business community. Primary Qualities:A successful candidate for the position of President of the Derby Chamber of Commerce will demonstrate the following qualities:-Integrity, diplomacy, creativity, vision -Ability to listen; willingness to cooperate; commitment to teamwork -Capacity to motivate and lead by personal example-Excitement and enthusiasm for the Derby communityPosition Requirements:-Minimum three to five years experience in supervision and management -Proven relationship-building and leadership skills-Demonstrated competence in budgeting and fiscal management-Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills -Computer proficiency and technology skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Quick Books -Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment-Visionary who encourages new ideas with the ability to translate vision into action-Proven success in mentoring and motivating staff and volunteers to accomplish organizational objectives.-Minimum four-year degree or equivalent work-related experience -Willingness to participate in after-hours events/meetings and invest necessary time and effort to accomplish goals and objectives (minimum 45 hour week)-Eagerness to participate in ongoing continuing education opportunities Position Preferences:-Experience in long-term strategic planning-Institute of Organization Management or equivalent credentials-Event planning-Fund-raising/Sales-Business Advocacy-Knowledge of non-profit requirements-Experience working with elected officials and other community leadersPlease send cover letter, resume, salary/benefit requirements, business and personal references, along with the best time to contact you and your availability for a potential interview.
