About the Position:  Serves as a Nursing Assistant performing a range of standard patient care procedures in the Combined Specialty Clinic, Munson Army Health Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The clinic includes Internal medicine, OB/GYN, General Surgery, ENT, Neurology, Dermatology, and Audiology.

  • Moving expenses are not authorized, based on a determination that a move is not in the Governments interest.

Serves as a Nursing Assistant performing a range of standard patient care procedures in the Combined Specialty Clinic, Munson Army Health Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The clinic includes Internal medicine, OB/GYN, General Surgery, ENT, Neurology, Dermatology, and Audiology.
• Obtaining and recording vital data such as height, weight, allergies, primary complaint and any additional data required by the provider.
• Receiving and interviewing patients
• Obtaining and recording vitals signs using simple diagnostic tools such as a sthetoscope, manual and electronic blood pressure cuff, pulse oxymeter, and thermometer.
• Obtaining laboratory specimens for testing including blood, urine (by urinary bladder catherization if required), stool, sputum and nasogastric tube specimens.
• Performing simple tests in clinic such as urine dipstick, hemoccult, and serum glucose testing by glucometer.
• Assist physicians and acts as chaperone during a variety of exams and procedures by draping, positioning patients, setting up, prepping the site as needed, and passing instruments and supplies.
• Setting up a variety of specialized medical equipment i.e. invasive fiberoptic scopes, ENT scopes, surgical and diagnostic instruments.
• Providing pre and post operative instructions and directions to patients.
• Scheduling follow-up appointments for patients in civilian hospitals.
• Coordinating the flow of necessary information to civilian providers, or civilian hospitals performing surgery or procedures on our patients.
• Contacting patients telephonically to give follow-up appointment or treatment instruction.
• Coordinating appointments and schedules surgery for USDB inmates.
• Maintaining schedule for the general surgery clinic, schedules appointments from the list of reviewed consults.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.  Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
 
Specialized Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level or equivalent which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: performing non-professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical patient care facility, or as a home health aid. Examples of non-professional nursing care work include: 1) performing personal nursing care duties; 2) support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures; 3) caring for mentally ill patients; 4) assisting surgeons or registered nurses in operating room activities.
 
Qualifying specialized experience: Includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other medical, nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide performing duties such as: providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care; support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; and caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement; and assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patient.
 
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Competency (KSACs) in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-04 grade (or equivalent).

EDUCATION OPTIONS: Four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelors degree with courses related to Nursing Assisting.

If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position.

  • This position requires a Nursing Assistant State Certification.

  • Rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
  • This position may be designated essential during inclement weather.
  • Must obtain and maintain a favorable criminal background check.

  • This position requires a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.
