Job Description
Responsible for all aspects of rail car (tank cars and gondolas) repair and maintenance focusing on utilization of cutting torch and welding techniques. In addition, maintain acceptable attendance, perform efficiently versus time standards, comply with all company EHS policies/Rules, participate in Quality Assurance Plan requirements; participates in nonconformance root cause investigations, corrective action and monitoring the adequacy of same in their area of responsibility and makes efforts for continuous improvement of quality and the elimination of non-conformances. Demonstrate: the capability to learn and understand Inspection and Test Plan content (shop work order), rail car nomenclature, AAR and FRA rules/Regulations, inspection reports and sign off completed tasks; an adequate skill level in the operation of an oxy fuel cutting torch, fit-up, air arc equipment, and successfully pass rail car repair specific training/testing appropriate for the position, welder performance qualification and welding inspection training/testing. Inspects and assures their workmanship meets quality standards established. Operate plant equipment as assigned and maintains a clean orderly work area. Expected to be proficient in various gauge use, read various measuring instruments and scales, perform basic math calculations for the fabrication of repair parts and perform simple maintenance of equipment they utilize. Wear prescribed PPE for the work function performed. Perform any and all legal and safe duties assigned by supervision.Physical requirements are described in documentation by the EHS department.
Employees selected to perform any special processes will be trained, tested and qualified under programs designed for the particular process.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Job Requirements
Experience with mechanical repair of some description and accustom to working with industrial tooling. A plus to have metal fabrication, oxy fuel cutting torch, air arcing and welding experience.High school graduate or equivalent preferred. But applicant must be literate so as to understand: written instructions and postings, shop paperwork, safety rules and MSDS. Trade school completion a plus.
