We are currently hiringRemote ICD-10 Subject Matter Experts for full time employment opportunities.

JOB FUNCTION:

ICD-10 Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) utilize ICD-10 code set subject matter expertise in order to accurately assign and annotate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to encounters to be loaded into IOD’s ICD-10 Gym.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Has an expert level understanding of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines
• Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes using ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
• Assigns ICD-10-PCS procedure codes according to ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines
• Uses Lesson Builder to create annotations for all assigned ICD-10-CM/PCS codes
• Assesses appropriateness of ICD-10-CM codes assigned by other ICD-10-SMEs
• Assesses appropriateness of ICD-10-PCS codes assigned by other ICD-10-SMEs
• Adds code-level notes where needed to communicate important information to downstream users
• Adds account-level notes where needed to communicate important information to downstream users
• Utilizes OneIOD to collaborate with fellow SMEs during coding and annotation process
• Participates in ICD-10 SME webinars/roundtables
• Utilizes an encoder efficiently

ADDITIONAL JOB COMPONENTS:

• Completes scheduled work hours
• Communicates any inability to complete scheduled work hours to VP of Coding Compliance and Education, or designee
• Assesses functionality of Lesson Builder, makes recommendations for enhancements to promote efficiency
• Assesses functionality of ICD-10-Gym, makes recommendations for enhancements to promote efficiency
• Uses Overlook for Coding to enter hours worked and charts completed
• Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Consideration for the role of ICD-10 Subject Matter Expert requires all of the following:

• Prior experience with practical application of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient encounters
• Expert level understanding of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines
• Ability to consistently apply accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines in order to apply codes
• Certification as an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 trainer
• Prior experience with practical application of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient encounters
