Today these northern stores operate in communities with populations from 500 to 7,000. A typical store is 7,500 square feet in size and offers food, family apparel, housewares, appliances, outdoor products, and services such as quick-service prepared food, special ordering, money transfers and check cashing.

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

 

Responsible to deliver Best Meat Area in market providing CUL customers with best quality, value price, and pleasant and clean shopping environment while delivering target sales and profit performance

 

 

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

Communicate competitive analysis of each market to maintain Best Value image and meet sales and  profit targets in fresh meat and frozen/processed meat categories.

 

  • Provide weekly analysis on sales, margin, and sales penetration for meat by store citing key factors positively and/ or negatively impacting performance
  • Provide monthly update on competitive status and gap analysis in each market listing opportunities to gain market share and profit
  • Provide monthly analysis of team capabilities and recommend changes necessary to meet CUL sales and profit targets
  • Communicate to NWCI procurement quality issues to maintain Best Value image and competitive advantage
  • Communicate weekly Category Managers pricing issues that will impact sales and margin performance.
  • Communicate to Category Manager new and/or different products that can enhance sales and profit.

    Develop and Maintain Standards of Operation that ensure highest quality in stock and sanitation levels in produce area.

     

  • Refine and maintain standard of operation for CUL meat to be Best in Market.
  • Ensure all stores are in alignment and practice Fresh @ Five program
  • Strict adherence to production logs and order guides
  • Strict adherence to work methods that optimize profitability and appearance in meat
  • Strict adherence to plan o grams as developed for banner
  • Coordinate and assist with departmental merchandise resets
  • Review and approve weekly store orders to insure timeliness, proper inventory levels, in stock, rotation of product, and achieve sale/margin target
  • Ensure receiving and cool chain practices are followed to protect product quality and shelf life
  • Ensure company and department markdown policies are being followed
  • Ensure pricing accuracy and date integrity of meat department
  • Assist in the monthly BSI inventory at one store validating proper procedures and accuracy
  • Ensure that company operating standards in the area of customer service, housekeeping, and merchandising are consistently adhered to and maintained
  • Monitoring compliance with Federal, State, Territory, and local regulations that impact our daily business operations
  •  

     

    Provide training in presentation standards, work methods, margin generation, and customer service in fresh meat area.

     

  • Be the Subject Matter Expert resource in day to day operations in the meat department
  • Be the Subject matter Expert for Corporate and Banner initiatives
  • Monitor all expense lines, providing guidance on how to continually improve the work streams to drive cost down and improve bottom line profit
  • Provide training and certification for meat cutters in each location
  • Provide training to store personnel on each store visit to improve ordering, handling, rotation, merchandising, and quality of department and its direct relation to improving sales and profit.
  •  

     

    Share best Practices with all stores and other NWC banners.

     

  • Develop, collect, communicate, distribute, and maintain best Practices for meat area
  •  

     

    Communicate with key stakeholders opportunities to expand and grow meat business.

     

  • Communicate with category managers opportunities observed at other retails operations and strengths and weakness in CUL operation
  • Communicate with store managers practices and opportunities that will improve the store operation and making store more profit
  • Communicate to store manager observations, results, and issues after each store visit.
  • Communicate to CUL VP and GM any mechanical, safety, and sanitation issues providing a recommended action plan to remedy and deficiencies.
  • After traveling to stores, communicate to CUL VP and GM, NWCI VP P&M, and CUL RM’s overview of store and market, plans developed to improve operations, and any issues requiring assistance from corporate office
  •  

    Promote the “WOW" effect and customer focused merchandising throughout the meat area.

     

  • Specialty cuts and Signature items strongly featured in department
  • New items featured and called out
  • Fresh @ Five so our evening customers get the same great value and quality
  • Proper rotation of product to always show great quality

  • Job Requirements

    JOB EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

     

  • Minimum of 5 years big box/warehouse club/high volume supermarket merchandise management experience in fresh meat.
  • Demonstration of improved sales and profit performance in previous roles
  • Previous experience managing subordinate management and supervisory level staff
  • Multi store management experience is a plus
  • Intermediate knowledge and ability using MS Office 2007 and above
  • Intermediate computer abilities
  • Previous retail or hospitality experience is a must
  • High School or Secondary School diploma or a combination of experience and education required
  • Ability to meet all country or region immigration regulations and have valid documents to meet these qualifications (passport)
  • Basic math and reading skills are a must
  • Able to work well on own or within a team
  • Self-motivated to work quickly and efficiently to complete the entire task within time limits
  • Able to correctly manager time to meet deadlines and targets and to manage subordinates to do the same
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new working environments, situations, and cultures
  •

  • Ability to work in varying conditions from heat to cold
  • Fast paced work environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, shifts and days including morning to evening, weekends, overnight and public holidays
  • Ability to travel frequently—typical work week but not limited to Monday Home office Day, Tuesday – Friday travel and work in CUL market
  • Ability to cover for other managers when needed for their leaves or other circumstances
  • Ability to lift and or move 50 pounds
