Watershed Maintenance Worker I at Olathe

Job Description

Entry level skilled work under the direction of a Watershed Foreman, serving on a designated work crew. Work includes maintaining water control structures (stormwater inlets, boxes, and pipes), erosion control structures, open channels (natural & improved), detention and retention ponds, vegetation maintenance and establishment, system inspection and verification of new and existing structures.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of manual labor involving maintenance and repairs to storm drainage systems which includes: pipe installation, concrete work, shovel work, spreading rock, loading or unloading trucks, transporting construction material, cutting tall grass and weeds, cleaning drainage structures and ditches, planting and weeding of erosion control type grasses and plants.
  • Assists in the construction and maintenance of stream stabilization measures.
  • Operates single and tandem axle dump trucks, farm tractor, snow removal equipment, mowing equipment, skid steer loaders, backhoes, front end loaders, hand and power tools, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Native vegetation management including weed eating, herbicide application, and mowing.
  • Complimenting and coordinating green infrastructure activities with traditional stormwater infrastructure activities.
  • Adheres to all safety rules, practices and policies; develops and follows safe work habits; alerts supervisor to dangerous or unsafe conditions in the workplace or vehicle.
  • Responds to all work orders assigned by superiors.
  • May perform work in confined spaces.
  • Perform on-call duties snow removal, and overtime and other duties as required.

Job Requirements

Experience & Education:Experience and Education Guidelines Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:Experience: 1 year experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resource or horticultural management experience or a related field. Must be at least 18 years old.Education: High School diploma/GED
Supplemental Information:Background, pre-employment physical and drug screen required.

Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday

Must have a valid drivers license with a favorable driving record.
