Sr. Farm & Ranch Underwriter at Colby

Job Description

• Classify, accept or reject large or more complex farm, ranch, and personal line insurance coverage in accordance with FBL policy and procedures and in compliance with governmental regulations.
• Position will cover the Northwestern Kansas territory.  Candidate must reside within the assigned territory, ideally in/near Colby, which is where the office is located.
• Contribute to the profitability of FBL by effectively accepting, modifying, or rejecting various Farm, Ranch and Personal new business risks, changes and renewal underwriting.
• Assist agency staff in selecting and writing profitable Farm, Ranch, and Personal business for FBL by responding to agent questions and providing training to agents at classes, meetings and through daily contact.
• Assist Farm Bureau in remaining competitive with other insurance companies by using experience and knowledge to provide quick approval of policies.
• Respond to and interpret Farm and Ranch underwriting questions and concerns by providing technical service to policyholders and the agency force.
• Reduce the frequency of losses by monitoring FBL’s existing book of business.
• Assist the claims staff by interpreting the intent of coverage and providing legal documentation when needed. Must be prepared to give presentations on farm underwriting issues and compliance.

Job Requirements

• College degree or equivalent plus at least five years relevant work experience required.  Candidates with less experience will be considered for entry level Farm and Ranch Underwriter position.
•  Must keep up-to-date regarding state and federal compliance rules and regulations.
• Must have good analytical and problem solving skills.
•  Ability to negotiate and cope with stressful situations.  Farm background preferred.
